Drug Uses
Sumycin is prescribed for the treatment of infections suspected to be caused by bacteria.

How Taken
Sumycin should only be taken as per the doctor’s prescription. Take the drug at least half an hour before taking food or two hours after taking food. You have to avoid milk and milk products while taking the drug. Antacids containing calcium, aluminum and magnesium should be avoided while taking Sumycin. It is also advised to avoid preparations containing iron, zinc, bismuth and sodium bicarbonate.

If you want to get rid of the infection completely, you have to take the whole course of the medication.

Warnings/Precautions
Before Sumycin is prescribed, you have to tell your doctor about all your medical conditions. If you have allergies to any substance, medicine or any food, you have to tell your doctor.

You should have to tell your doctor if you have heart problems, kidney or liver diseases, stomach infection and diarrhea.

Sumycin should be avoided if you are pregnant or hoping to get pregnant as the drug is known to cause harm to the unborn babe.  The drug is also seen in breast milk and so you should avoid breast feeding while taking Sumycin.

The drug is also known to interact with certain medicines. So it is better to inform your doctor about all the medications, including prescription and nonprescription medicine; dietary supplement and herbal preparation. Sumycin is also known to be sensitive to the sun. You have to wear some protective clothing when going out and also has to apply sunscreen lotions and creams.

It has been found that prolonged use of Sumycin may cause a second infection. If you come across signs of a second attack, consult your doctor immediately so that he will be able to make some changes in the prescription. The drug is also known to decrease the effect of birth control pills.

The drug should only be used with caution in children below 8 years of age as the effect and safety of the drug has not yet been established. The drug can cause permanent discoloring of the teeth in children.

Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, take the drug as soon as you remember it. But if it is time for the next dosage, skip the missed one and continue with the scheduled dosage. Never mix two doses.

Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, you should have o seek immediate medical attention.

More Information
Sumycin may lead to dizziness or blurred vision. These can worsen if the drug is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. You should not drive or perform any hard work unless you know the effect of the drug.

The drug should not be shared with others. It has to be taken by those for whom it has been prescribed.
